: Telangana is set to enter into MoUs with a few players, experts in Blockchain Technology, to adopt it in some government applications, said a senior official of the State government today. "We are planing to implement Blockchain Technologies in six or seven government applications. We will be signing MoUs with a few companies in the upcoming International Blockchain Congress to be held next month month," the state's IT and Industries Secretary Jayesh Ranjan said at a press conference here. Leading stock exchanges BSE and NSE have put in place a detailed framework for shortlisting and reviewing of securities under graded surveillance measures (GSM), wherein investors need to be extra cautious while dealing in such stocks. These additional guidelines have been made after a joint surveillance meeting of markets regulator Sebi with exchanges last week, the bourses said in separate circulars. Under the new criteria, securities having a networth of less than or equal to Rs 10 crore and net fixed assets of less than or equal to Rs 25 crore are eligible for inclusion under the GSM framework. Also, securities with a negative price earning (PE); or having a greater than two times PE of benchmark index -- Nifty 500 or S&P BSE 500 --can be included. Kerala-based South Indian Bank has declared a net profit of Rs 23.04 crores for the first quarter of the financial year 2018-19 as against Rs 101.47 crores during the corresponding period last year. In a press release here, the bank said the reason for the decline in profit was the reduction in the Treasury trading profit by Rs 73 crores and incremental MTM (mark to market) provision in the Treasury Book by Rs 41 crore owing to adverse market conditions, besides incremental one-time employee cost of Rs 33 crore because of increase in gratuity ceiling and wage revision. "But for these, the net profit would have been Rs 119 crores for the first quarter," the release said. Low-cost deposit grew by 4 per cent, it said. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed a charge sheet against Jagdish Patel, the suspended Amreli district Superintendent of Police, in the Bitcoin extortion case. The charge sheet was filed yesterday in the court of Additional Sessions Judge P J Tamakuwala. The 2,400-page charge sheet names Patel as the key accused, who allegedly extorted Rs 1.4 crore from Surat-based builder Shailesh Bhatt by abducting him with the help of junior policemen. Patel was suspended from the service after his arrest in the case in April. He is still behind bars. The crime came to light when Bhhatt lodged a complaint with the state CID-Crime alleging, that inspector Anant Patel and some other policemen attached to Amreli police abducted him and his business partner Kirit Paladia from Gandhinagar, and forced them to transfer Bitcoins worth Rs 9 crore. Computer systems of a private hospital in Navi Mumbai have come under a malware attack, with attackers seeking ransom in Bitcoins, police today said. The cyber attack on the computer systems of Mahatma Gandhi Mission Hospital came to light on July 15, police said. Hospital administrators found the systems locked, with an encrypted message by unidentified attackers demanding ransom in Bitcoins to unlock it, said Tushar Doshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime). Authorities found that access to the data of the previous 15 days had been blocked. Such attacks are described as 'ransomware' attacks, where a malicious software enters the victim's computer system, and the attackers threaten to publish the data or block access to it unless a ransom is paid. A special investigation team (SIT) will be set up to probe cases of Bitcoin investment fraud, the Maharashtra Government announced in the Legislative Council today. Minister of State (Finance) Deepak Kesarkar said the SIT would be headed by the Additional Director General, Economic Offences. He was replying to a calling-attention motion by Hemant Takle, Amarsingh Pandit, Kiran Pawaskar and Leader of Opposition Dhananjay Munde. The opposition legislators raised the issue of alleged cheating to the tune of Rs 30-40 crore of investors in Kolhapur and Sangli by Xipcoin Kripto, a crypto currency firm. The minister said that an SIT will be formed to probe this and other cases involving cheating of Bitcoin investors. If needed, police will seek the Enforcement Directorate's help, he said. The domestic pharmaceutical sector is likely to register a moderate, single-digit revenue growth in the current fiscal year, on slowing US market growth, increased competition and regulatory overhang, a report said. Consolidation of supply chain in the US market resulting in pricing pressures along with sustained investments in research and development (R&D) will also have an impact on profitability of Indian pharmaceutical companies, Icra said in its report. The Supreme Court today refused to stay a Reserve Bank of India circular prohibiting banks and financial institutions from providing services in relation to cryptocurrencies. A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra issued notices to the ministries of Finance, Law and Justice and Information Technology and the RBI and tagged the matter along with similar cases.
