New Delhi: India Inc is shifting focus from hiring AI builders to recruiting engineers who can apply AI to solve customer problems, improve delivery and redesign workflows. New-age roles such as forward-deployed engineers and agentic AI engineers are seeing record demand.According to a CIEL HR analysis of over 200 companies in nine sectors conducted for ET, 90% of the firms are hiring for these roles to drive customer-facing solutions and internal efficiency. The survey covered IT services, IT products, startups, global capability centres, manufacturing, retail, ecommerce , financial services and logistics. Companies are deploying these skills both for customer solutions and internal use, a trend also confirmed by HR leaders at the RPG Group, Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles, EY and Savills India. India is aiming to connect 1 billion people to 5G by 2030, after bringing nearly 500 million users onto the network in just two-and-a-half years, Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Wednesday as he unveiled the theme for the 10th edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026.Speaking at the theme launch of Asia's largest digital technology event, Scindia also announced that India's first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) will be set up in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, to create a dedicated manufacturing ecosystem for telecom equipment, semiconductor companies and data centres.The minister launched "Scale without boundaries" as the theme for IMC 2026, scheduled to be held from October 7 to 10 at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. US aircraft maker Boeing reported a wider-than-expected Q2 loss Tuesday after booking a $280 million charge tied to its troubled Air Force One replacement program, Reuters reported.The charge reflected higher engineering costs associated with delivering two delayed US presidential aircraft in 2028 and contributed to a second-quarter net loss of $428 million.The aircraft maker’s shares rose 5% in midday trading despite the Q2 loss, as investors focused on improving production and stronger cash flow.
